Meet the distinguished members of our organizing committee, comprised of leading researchers in immunology, biomedicine, and related fields from across the Americas.
Michael Schnoor, PhD
Michael Schnoor, PhD
Affiliation: Professor for Molecular Biomedicine, CINVESTAV del IPN, Department for Molecular Biomedicine. Editor-in-Chief Journal of Leukocyte Biology.
Scientific Interest: The goal of the Schnoor laboratory is to understand the molecular mechanisms regulated by actin-binding proteins that drive inflammatory diseases and cancer.
Affiliation: Professor and Coordinador of Laboratory of Basic Medical Sciences, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.
Scientific Interest: His line of research is immuno-parasitology. The main focus of his research is the immune response in Chagas disease, both the cellular and the humoral response.
Affiliation: Professor, Departamento de Bioquímica e Imunologia, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brasil.
Scientific Interest: Her research interests are: Effects of food components in the immune system, Immunomodulatory effects of wild type and recombinant probiotic bacteria, Oral tolerance and its therapeutic application for chronic inflammatory diseases, Food allergy: immune and neuro-immune features and Immunosenescence: healthy aging in humans.
Affiliation: Professor of Immunology at the Faculty of Exact Sciences, National University of La Plata (UNLP), Principal Investigator at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council), Argentina. Head of the research group Immunobiology of the Small Intestine at the Institute of Immunological and Physiopathological Studies (IIFP, UNLP-CONICET).
Scientific Interest: His research focuses on the immunobiology of the small intestine, aiming to improve the understanding of chronic inflammatory diseases such as celiac disease; to this aim he uses both human samples and mouse models. In addition, he works on the development of immunochemical platforms for gluten detection in food, as well as serological tests for the diagnosis of celiac disease.
Affiliation: Professor Universidad El Bosque, director of the Cellular and Molecular Immunology group at the Universidad El Bosque in Bogotá, Colombia. Vice president of the Colombian Association of Immunology (ACOI).
Scientific Interest: Her research focuses are: Autoimmunity, autoinflammation, and drug response, Cellular and molecular immune response in cancer, and Mucosal immunology and infection.
Pablo Romagnoli, PhD
Affiliation: IUCBC Instituto Universitario de Ciencias Biomédicas.
Scientific Interest: He studies the influence of tryptophan metabolite from diet and the microbiota bound to Luminal IgG in the immune responses in the intestinal mucosa and their relation to nutrition and the genetic component of an individual.
